G.AL® Aluminum Cast Plates - sawed - for molding
What exactly are mold plates?
Aluminum, which is available in great thickness combined with stress free condition, good form stability and good machineability.
The production of “mold plates” varies a lot depending on the type of alloy and the technically possible final thickness. Rolled, naturally hardened plates of up to 11.81” in hickness are often used. However in increasing thickness, these materials have a wide structural difference between edge and core areas, because technically it is not possible to mechanically create a uniform microstructure over the entire plate’s cross-section.
Therefore in greater thickness, cast materials are often used, even they have in general a little lower strength values.
The heat treatable G. AL® C330R is a remarkable alternative: excellent processing properties associated with higher strength values – a combination that for long was not achievable. For extremely large shapes one can also use the cast mold plates/blocks G. AL® C210R available in thickness of up to 141.73” in.
